Meet the Newest Residents of Tiger Trail

Listen for the grunts, screams and yowls of our brand new lion-tailed macaques. A troop of five of these monkeys is now on exhibit in the refurbished former home of the tigers. These cheek-pouched lion-tailed macaques are one of the smallest and most endangered of the macaque species. Their name refers to the tip of their tails which somewhat resembles that of a lion's tail. See them in their new home today!

FOTZ Family Night on Sunday, June 23

Our first exclusive FOTZ Family Night of the year is Sunday, June 23rd from 4-8pm. The Zoo will stay open late for FOTZ members only and offer lots of family fun. We will have special keeper chats, face painting, chalk art, a caricature artist, demonstrations from the Astronomical Society of Kansas City and a special guest speaker who will talk about one of the penguin species that's coming to the Zoo this fall. Be sure to register for the buffet dinner. If you aren't a FOTZ member yet, there's still time to sign up and enjoy this exclusive event.

Wine & Cheese with Dumasani and "The Girls"

Please join us on the afternoon of Thursday, June 27 for a sunset estate planning safari. Terri Roberts Munsell and Larry Valencia with UMB Bank will be here to share the impacts of and answer questions about the 2012 Tax Act. This will be followed by a wine and cheese reception at the African lion exhibit. Click here for more details.

Nikita & Berlin Go For A Swim

Word from the Passage is that Berlin is becoming a true matriarch. See her and Nikita snack on carrots, swim, and lazy around their fabulous exhibit. Keep an eye on our website, Facebook, and watch the KCTV 5 web cam for the latest information.

Helzberg Penguin Plaza

Construction began in September on the Helzberg Penguin Plaza and the dirt has been flying ever since. The project is going well and the exhibit is still on schedule to open in the Fall of 2013.

Helzberg Penguin Plaza will feature a 100,000 gallon cool pool for cold water penguins laced with snow, and a 25,000 gallon warm wet area laced with sand for warm water penguins. Each exhibit provides magnificent views showcasing these extraordinary black and white birds in a recreated Southern Oceans environment.
Watch the
penguin exhibit video to see the official plans!
