How to Volunteer

There is a three step process to get started as a volunteer:

1. Application
All potential volunteers must have a volunteer application on file to be considered for the Zoo volunteer programs.

2. Interview Process
Interested volunteer candidates will be contacted for a phone or face-to-face interview depending on the program. Interviews are usually short and informal. Interviews allow the Volunteer Coordinator to learn about the person's interests, experiences, and motivation for volunteering. Expectations of the Zoo and specific work assignments can be discussed during the interview.

3. Orientation and Trainings
If offered a Volunteer position, the applicant must attend New Volunteer Orientation prior to their first day of volunteering to review Zoo Policies, Safety and Security Procedures, and job assignment. New Volunteers become active only after attending Orientation. Docents and Summer Docents go through specific trainings prior to becoming active volunteers. All other programs use on-the-job training.

Pretty Oryx

Scientists think I may be extinct in the wild. But I’m still popular with ranchers because I’m so pretty.
