Bikes and Trikes

In 2023, the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium launched a Pathway to Net Zero Plan, committing to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. A key part of this goal is promoting green transportation. With 202 acres to cover, Zoo staff often need an efficient way to travel and transport supplies. While walking is the greenest options, it isn't always practical for carrying equipment.

To address this, we've introduced emissions-free industrial bicycles and tricycles for our staff. These sturdy cycles can carry up to 550 pounds, allowing staff to transport everything tools to animal diets and compost buckets. This initiative not only boosts staff efficiency but also aligns with our commitment to environmental stewardship.

Riding a bike is a great choice for protecting the environment, and it also offers a variety of personal benefits. It's a fantastic way to boost your physical and mental well-being while enjoying the outdoors. The Zoo hopes these cycles inspire guests to consider cycling as a healthy, green way to get around in their own daily lives!
