Florida Manta Project

The Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium is supporting critical field research of manta rays in partnership with Marine Megafauna Foundation's Florida Manta Project. The Florida Manta Project is the first dedicated study of manta rays in the continental US. This pioneering research helps fill knowledge gaps in manta ray life history, provide data to government agencies, and identify critical habitats such as the groundbreaking discovery of a manta ray nursery habitat in Southern Florida, one of only three locations in the world. Additionally, the Florida Manta Project promotes the conservation of manta rays through education, community engagement and citizen science. This project is spearheaded by Advanced Animal Care Specialist, Courtney Webster.
