The Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium has partnered with Save Giraffes Now on a unique co-existence project in Kenya. This project aims to study and document the movement of giraffe herds in relation to wildlife underpass structures. These underpasses offer giraffes a more natural corridor under busy transportation infrastructures, enhancing habitat usage and preventing life-threatening accidents. The findings from this study will help determine the effectiveness of the wildlife underpasses, facilitate enhancements, and assist with identifying optimal locations for future underpasses within giraffe habitats. Jacob Stack, Advanced Animal Care Specialist, who champions this project, visited Kenya to assist with the trail camera placement. These cameras helped capture the movements of the giraffe as they explored the underpasses.
