What is animal enrichment?
Animal enrichment simply means we provide a physically and mentally stimulating environment for our animals by giving them toys and objects to keep them challenged and entertained.
When your dog chases a tennis ball or your cat bats around a stuffed mouse, that’s animal enrichment! Our animals aren’t that much different. They need novel treats for training, strong smells to keep their sense of smell sharp, and interesting visuals for variety. Oh, and very sturdy toys.
Christmas lights for cheetahs! Gelatin for elephants! Bubble bath for baboons!
Our Wish List is filled with items that help our animal care staff provide the best quality care for our animals. Some items might seem a bit odd, but each serves an important purpose.
- Carnivores investigate cologne and perfume when marking their habitat territory.
- Non-toxic bubble bath is fun for play.
- Canned meats and condiments provide interesting items to taste.
