The Monarch Butterfly project aims to promote a sustainable cooperation with local species of flora and fauna. Monarch butterflies represent a vital community of pollinators and native wildlife that face threats from urban expansion and agricultural practices. At the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium, the butterflies serve as a flagship species to engage and inspire our visitors to simple and obtainable conservation actions. Butterfly gardens and habitats have become more and more commonplace throughout Kansas City as people are recognizing their ability to be conservationists themselves and the benefits they provide.
