Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium! The Zoo & Aquarium relies on volunteers to support our staff and mission of connecting all people to each other and the natural world to promote understanding, appreciation, and conservation. Whether you are helping in education, horticulture, or animal care, volunteers make an impact every day. If you are looking for an incredibly rewarding opportunity, you have come to the right place! Please Note: Due to the various aspects of our volunteer programs, the Zoo & Aquarium reserves the right to suggest other volunteer opportunities that may be a better fit. Additionally, we cannot accept individuals seeking court-ordered service hours.

Animal Volunteers

Animal Care Volunteers assist Animal Care staff with routine work assignments involving maintenance and care of Zoo exhibits and enclosures. They may assist with behind-the-scenes projects and also participate in research and/or behavior studies.

Dive Volunteers

Dive Volunteers work under the direct supervision of the Dive Safety Officer and Animal Care Staff to support the Zoo & Aquarium’s animals, employees, and mission.

Docents

Our longest-running volunteer program, Zoo Docents are dedicated volunteers who serve as educators and interpreters at animal habitats throughout the Zoo. In addition, they provide tours and assist with a variety of educational programs both at the Zoo and out in the local community all year long.

VolunTEEN

The Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium VolunTEEN program empowers teens to become community leaders in conservation while instilling workplace values.

Group Volunteers

Looking for a team-building opportunity?

Projects are most ideal for groups of 5-20 people, and those 18 years of age and older.  Groups with individuals under the age of 18 are evaluated case-by-case.
